Excited to announce that DEALING WITH DAD has won the Jury Best Narrative Feature Film Award at the Austin Asian American Film Festival!

The Bentonville Film Festival, chaired by Geena Davis, is set to honor actor Fin Argus and producer Effie Brown at its eighth annual event produced by the nonprofit BFFoundation.

Dealing With Dad--Three grown children in a Taiwanese-American family reunite at their childhood home in Milpitas, California when their father shows signs of depression. He lies in bed all day watching TV and won't engage with anybody, except to absently offer his kids money.

Filmmaker and actor Tom Huang turns a spotlight on these issues in his latest release, “Dealing With Dad.” The film had its Los Angeles premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival on May 7 and stars Ally Maki, Hayden Szeto and Peter S. Kim. Dana Lee takes on the role of their once-fearsome family patriarch, now bedridden after developing clinical depression. But as his three children reluctantly reunite to get him the help he needs, they grapple with the question of whether they actually want him to get better.

Tom Huang’s feature film debut “Find Me” remains a favorite indie film of mine and now with his sophomore film “Dealing with Dad,” Huang polishes his edges, refines his themes and brings us yet another universal story—dealing with an aging parent who is depressed.

No, no, it’s not that kind of film. Margaret is also tasked with a pair of hapless brothers, said depressed father used to be a giant jerk, and the realization that sad dad might be the better option will loom over the entire outing. It’s billed as a “comedic drama,” and it sounds like just the right mix of deep emotion and biting humor that Sundance loves to showcase. Huang is due for a hit, and Sundance could provide him that chance.
